Bent’s Opera House, Victory Lofts restoration projects honored by New York State

On April 16, two LeChase projects received honors at the 2024 New York State Historic Preservation Awards. Presented by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation’s Division for Historic Preservation, these awards recognize excellence in the protection and revitalization of historic and cultural resources.

The Bent’s Opera House historic renovation and restoration project was the inaugural recipient of the Joan K. Davidson Award. LeChase served as construction manager on the project, which transformed the previously vacant building into a modern destination. Today, the facility includes an upscale, farm-to-table restaurant and bar, a boutique hotel with 10 uniquely themed rooms, and a beautifully restored theater for private and public gatherings. LeChase team members Chris Kulik, Charlie Spencer and Nate Scheffinger accepted the award alongside Bent’s co-owner Heather Hungerford, and the team from Kideney Architects.

The Victory Lofts historic renovation project received an Excellence in Historic Building Preservation, Rehabilitation, or Restoration award. LeChase partnered with Paulus Development to transform the long-vacant Endicott-Johnson (EJ) Victory Shoe Factory into 156 upscale market-rate apartments complete with amenities and space for future retail. Matthew Paulus, founder and president of Paulus Development attended the event and accepted the award.
