Duke Thermal Plant project nears completion

Crews working on the Duke Utility Site No. 1 Thermal Plant project are installing 100+ plants, trees, and shrubs around the building’s perimeter to help it blend in with surrounding vegetation. With completion of landscaping, the project will seek to receive final exterior sign-off from the Durham Inspections Department. Inside the building, final finishes are in place and start-ups of the major equipment have been performed. The project team is in the process of commissioning eight refurbished 9,600 PPH boilers that were relocated from Duke’s East Campus Steam Plant. Upon completion of commissioning the Thermal Plant will be turned over to the University, providing redundancy and assistance in heating its campus through the upcoming winter months.
