Rochester Institute of Technology | Golisano Institute for Sustainability

This project consisted of constructing the Golisano Institute for Sustainability (GIS) Research Building, a living laboratory for scientific discovery and experimental learning. This building is a unique university research and education initiative focusing broadly on developing and introducing sustainable technologies for manufacturing, transportation, energy production and construction. GIS was the first in the world to offer a Ph.D. program in sustainability.

The facility contains integration test beds and eight support laboratories. Computing and collaborative spaces were also constructed to support research programs, such as eco–IT, sustainable products and production systems, sustainable energy, sustainable mobility and build system sustainability.

This project achieved multiple awards, including the 2013 Build NY Award, the DBIA National Award of Excellence for Education and the DBIA Award of Excellence in Design.
