When Alfred State College recently celebrated renovations to MacKenzie Hall, LeChase CEO Bill Goodrich joined SUNY and school leaders in cutting the ribbon and saying a few words. It was fitting, given that Bill had lived in the dorm when he was an undergraduate in construction engineering technology at the school.
Of course, the hall didn’t look quite the same then as it does today. LeChase was general contractor on a recent $14.7 million project to provide new, open gathering spaces for students that are beyond what you would expect in a traditional dorm. Finishes include fireplaces, planters and even waterfalls. The renovation also covered new kitchens, living quarters, a fitness center, a lounge and offices in the central quad and other areas.
Like Bill, executive vice president Douglas Schaefer of Mach Architecture – the project design firm – had once lived in the MacKenzie complex. He and his team used personal experiences to ensure their design would meet the needs of today’s students.
