After participating in some career fairs earlier this fall, LeChase representatives were back to meet students at additional events.

Associated Schools of Construction Student Competition and Career Fair

Held in Albany on November11, this event attracted about 200 students from 16 colleges who met with firms to discuss internships and full-time job opportunities. LeChase employees from the Western NY and Albany areas teamed up to staff the event.Shown in the photo, they are (left-to-right):  Scott Lawler, estimator, Albany; Ian Crell, project engineer, WNY; Courtney Lafferty, project engineer, WNY; Cheryl Schmidt, director OD; Abbey Stein, project manager, Albany; and Lee Sommerman, regional operations manager, WNY.

The day also featured a student competition, with 35 teams competing in four divisions: commercial building, design-build, heavy civil and preconstruction.  A LeChase-sponsored team from RIT took first place in the design-build division. Thanks to Lee Sommerman (lead), Jack Susman, Ryan Proud, Courtney Lafferty, Ian Crell, Tim Schirmer and Cheryl Schmitt for working and practicing with the students over the past two months.  In fact, Jack and Ian are RIT alumni who competed in the event while in school.

Alfred State Career Fair
On Thursday, November 9, Mike Goddard, project engineer, and Paul Cody, project manager – both of the Corning office – staffed a booth at the Alfred State College career fair. Paul has attended the semi-annual event for the past several years, and last year was joined by Mike, who was then a recent Alfred graduate. The fairs have proven a good opportunity to meet upperclassmen studying construction management at the school, and to share information with them about LeChase as a potential employer.
