On September 10, the LeChase Durham Police Headquarters project team welcomed Duke University’s Director of Construction Paul Manning and about 30 members of his Facilities Management team. LeChase works with the Duke team on a daily basis, and this was a unique opportunity to give them a guided tour of the headquarters building before it is turned over to the City.

The new facility will include administrative functions and serve as the main building for the Durham Police Department and select support divisions and units. While primarily 126,000 SF of office space, it will also include the City of Durham’s 911 Call Center and an additional 450-car pre-cast parking deck.

The meeting started with a catered breakfast and welcome by Project Executive Denny Mangum. Mangum shared LeChase’s excitement about being able to showcase a project for the group that is outside the Duke University campus. Project Executive Marcus Tuttle then gave an introduction to the building and details surrounding the project. As expected in a room full of construction professionals, they were very engaged – asking lots of questions, inquiring about lessons learned, and eager for the project tour.

Marcus and Project Manager Dave Stout walked the group around all four floors of the building, pointing out the Chief of Police’s office, the K9 room and interrogation rooms as well as the added security features around the building. The highlight of the tour was the 911 Call Center, where all 911 calls from Durham and Duke University will be fielded.
