Departure of tower crane at 500 Block marks project milestone

On Friday, March 22, the team on the 500 Block project in Durham celebrated the removal of the last tower crane onsite. The project, which features an 850-car parking garage wrapped by a 248-unit, multi-family facility, is expected to be complete by the end of 2024.

The team brought in a temporary 600-ton crane with a luffing jib to reach and safely extract the site’s tower crane from the center of the parking garage. With the tower crane now removed, the team can finish concrete work within the garage. Framing is also nearly complete, and insulation and drywall are well underway inside the multi-family facility.
