HIGHLIGHTS:
Regarded as one of the premier microsystems research and development facilities east of the Mississippi River, the Infotonics Technology Center of Excellence in Photonics and Microsystems featured an accelerated nine month construction schedule requiring the highly specialized construction of class 100 cleanrooms. The design included both “bay and chase” and “ballroom” configurations and included a new central utility plant, custom recirculation air handling units, DI/RO water system, process cooling system, specialized "“scrubbed"” exhaust systems, waste treatment system, UHP (ultrahigh purity) gas distribution system (24 gases including toxics and pyrophorics), and toxic gas monitoring system. LeChase provided the cleanroom construction protocol including training for all trades, vendors and Infotonics personnel, and served as commissioning agent for commissioning of all key systems.
In addition to its role as construction manager for the project, LeChase also served as procurement manager and Infotonic’s agent for the purchase of all the process tools (128). In this role, LeChase negotiated and contracted with tool manufacturers, refurbishers and used equipment brokers, arraigned for crating and shipping and coordinated the installation of all tools and ancillary equipment including the formal commissioning of all tools and supporting systems.
To further highlight the project’s success, NYSERDA (New York State Energy Research and Development Agency) awarded the project a $361,000 grant for energy conservation measures incorporated into the project. This award was the direct result of the efforts of LeChase and the project design team, Pathfinder Engineers.
